Power Plant Voltaj

Power plants and glamour aren’t two concepts you would normally put together in one sentence, but just look at this awesome control room. This power plant control room is a true time capsule of the glamour, elegance, and delicacy of Art Deco design! Perhaps far ahead of its time; so stunningly beautiful. Although production of power has been stopped years ago, the loud sound of high voltage could still be heard from some transformer cabinets. It was therefore necessary to pay attention to all the loose wires because there could just be some current running through them still.

We are looking at the former control room of a power plant in Romania. According to sources, the steam engines in the plant have resemblance to some equipment on the Titanic. An ancient power plant that was once one of the most advanced of its kind at the dawn of our electric age. When you walk around, it seems like you are in a scene at one of the Star Wars sets. I was very happy to see it with my own eyes, as I was thinking of his big brother, who also had a beautiful art deco glass roof.

A BIT OF HISTORY

The closure of mining activities in the city, where the plant is located, had a negative effect on the city’s economy. As the city was largely populated by the elderly, because the young already had moved to large cities in search of a better life. There was not much to be found outside the mining industry. The end of the mining era not only impacted the economic and demographic balance, but was a real raid on the roads to the city. The existing buildings and technology disappeared as if under the influence of magic dust of the “black gold”. No one was interested in ways to modernize the remaining infrastructure and goods. The power plant was built at the end of 1800, and before that it was one of the power stations consisting of a steam engine. The steam was produced by two recovery boilers and two DC generators. In 1900 the plant was equipped with Tischbein boilers; burning coke gas and equipped with a superheater and a generator set. The factory stopped in the 1960s because of the outdated techniques that were used.

What holds the future for this plant?

Fortunately, the factory has not been forgotten and has been added to the list of historical monuments. The mayor of the city also wants to restore balance within the community. He has started a large-scale project. One of the major goals is to breathe new life into the ruins of the mining town in the shape of a museum that will hopefully bring a lot of tourists to the city. This will create more employment opportunities for young people.

I truly appreciate the time and effort my faithful readers make by visiting my website and reading my articles.

So a big shoutout to you guys, thank you so much for supporting me!

Curious why I don’t use the real names of these beautiful sites,  or tell where their location is at in my articles?
That’s because the locations I visit are often not protected. Making this information public could lead to vandalism or looting of these beautiful locations, and would destroy them further for future visits.
It is also one of the golden rules in the urban scene!
