Cinema Theatre Esetek

Reading time 1 minute:

Status: Preparations have been made for a renovation.

This cinema with a grand ballroom was built at the end of the 19th century. At the time it was one of the most lustrous ballrooms in the country. The interior was richly decorated. The walls and ceilings were covered with gilded plaster. It was and is an absolute architectural masterpiece when you look at the details in there.

The great hall on the first floor was the place where famous balls, evenings and major events were held. The building had many destinations, at one time it even was a center of entertainment with a restaurant, nightclub and shops and the ballroom that had been converted into a cinema. Over time, the interest in going to the cinema declined and people stayed home more often to watch films on the TV in their own houses.

After the cinema-goers declined drastically in numbers, the board decided to turn the cinema into an art cinema to attract a different audience. There were Avant-garde and rare foreign films or feature films shown. Nevertheless, the cinema faced financial difficulties. It had to close its doors in the end. The last movie was played more than a century ago.

While this initially started as a note of nostalgic grief, it ends with good news. I recently received news that the building was bought by an investor, so I hope my photo gallery below will be just an expired aging record of the building’s darkest years.

I truly appreciate the time and effort my faithful readers make by visiting my website and reading my articles.

So a big shoutout to you guys, thank you so much for supporting me!
