The first time I came across the pictures of this beautiful victorian mansion has been over 4 years ago. It was a gem on the top of a mountain, which I found after some real detective work. Still I didn’t find the time to go and visit the place. Our journey started after we found more amazing locations to make the adventure complete. It still amazes me to see a rich architectural building like this being abandoned. When I arrived, I was truly amazed by the beauty of the mansion. It was like a fairy tale come true. You can see the years took its toll by the building’s decay in the picture. 4 years ago, it was far less visible.
I was really curious to know the mansion story and why it was left behind like this. The mansion owner was the count of Amel. He received his title from king Carlos of Portugal on June 22nd, 1901 in favor of João Maria Correia Aires de Campos. The count Ameal was the head of the reigning party Coimbra, still ruled by the monarchy, deputy and chairman of this council.
As a collector with high demands, the count created an authentic museum containing numerous invaluable items. This resulted in being a library which matched the top level of libraries like the ones in Lisbon and Porto.
The blue cottage built by the count served as a refuge, an escape from everyday life. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find out why the mansion was abandoned. I do know the count has offspring. However, I am not sure if the mansion is still owned by the family.
Hopefully this place will catch the attention of someone who wishes to restore the place. I can image this being a challenge because of the wooden construction of the place. Due to the fact the wood is starting to rot and could collapse.
I was pleased to see that there was a ‘For Sale’ sign on the property. I hope somebody will be up for the challenge to save this beautiful blue mansion.
You see that almost everything is made of wood
The most beautiful room in the house, I captured all angles.
I took so many pictures i will add a second part of this location later ..stay tuned
I truly appreciate the time and effort my faithful readers make by visiting my website and reading my articles.
So a big shoutout to you guys, thank you so much for supporting me!
Curious why I don’t use the real names of these beautiful sites, or tell where their location is at in my articles? That’s because the locations I visit are often not protected. Making this information public could lead to vandalism or looting of these beautiful locations, and would destroy them further for future visits. It is also one of the golden rules in the urban scene!
